There are many recent Noire Dame graduates who have left the Dome — and their homes — to spend two years as volunteer te a c h e r s in needy Catholic schools as part of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) p rog ram . And now H u rr ican e K atr ina has m ade their already challenging jobs even harder. Twenty-live Notre Dame gradu­ ates are serving in areas affected by I lurricane Katrina, ACE direc­ tor John Stand said. The affected s ites a re Baton Rouge and Plaguemine, Louisiana; Mobile, Alabama; Biloxi, Mississippi and Pensacola, Florida. “The important thing is, all the teachers are safe and were evac­ uated in lime,” Staud said. “In my 10 years involved in the pro­ gram, this is the worst [storm! we’ve experienced.
